Potency Testing is performed on all plant materials as well as all manufactured products. Potency is the determination of the concentration of Cannabinoids in the plant or processed goods.

The safety and efficacy of Cannabis products greatly depends on accurate potency testing of the major Cannabinoid components. Each of the components are valuable for different reasons and play a major factor in the biological effects of Cannabis.

The four major components are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), CBD (cannabidiol), and CBDA (cannabidiolic acid), but over 40 different potentially active cannabinoids have been discovered.

How Is Potency Testing Performed?

Maine requires testing of the cannabinoids d-8 THC, d-9 THC, THCA, CBD, CBDA in all products. The homogeneity (i.e. even distribution of the cannabinoids) is measured by taking many samples from various parts of the harvested batch or manufactured product batch and testing them individually.

Sample preparation protocols are an important part of obtaining an accurate and consistent potency measurement. Nova has developed and validated this process in house to ensure your results are consistent and accurate each time you test with us.
